Laura May Azbell

November 27th, 1927 – June 29th, 2023

Laura May Azbell, 95, of Ipava, IL, passed away at 1:20 pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at her home. She was born on November 27, 1927 in Vermont Township, Fulton County, IL, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Snowden) Ellison. Laura May married Donald Azbell on June 21, 1952 in Ipava. Donald preceded Laura May in death on February 21, 2005.

She is also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Keith Ellison.

Laura may is survived by her son, Scott Azbell of Quincy, IL, eight nieces and nephews; Kathy (and John) Watson of Lewistown, IL, Ruth Ann Ellison of Ipava, Kim Azbell of Ipava, Kristi (and Wayne) Little of Centennial, CO, Kevin (and Evelyn) Azbell of Phillips, WI, Kerry (and Marcia) Azbell of Bernard, IA, Lori (and Mark) Rose, and Lance Azbell, several great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-nephew.

She was a bookkeeper for Burgard Chevrolet in Ipava for 11 years. She later became owner and operator of Azbell Hardware in Ipava for 25 years with her husband.

Laura May was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #226 for over 60 years, where she served as treasurer. She was also a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church where she served as church treasurer, Sunday School treasurer and as a elder. She was also a member of the choir and bell choir in the church. She helped organize Ipava High School reunions for several years. Laura May was a loving matriarch to her family. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Ipava United Presbyterian Church in Ipava. Pastor Kevin Kessler will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the church in Ipava. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Presbyterian Church.
